What Program Tuition covers

Rustic Pathways Program Tuition covers the scheduled program in country: accommodation, meals, ground transportation, on-program flights, activities and entrance fees on the itinerary, gratuities and donations, Program Leader supervision, and 24-hour in-country medical support. Flights to and from the program, the enrollment fee, insurance, health costs and personal expenses are separate.

Your Total Investment = Program Tuition + a one-time enrollment fee of $100 + flights to and from the program + medical insurance + passport, visa and immunization costs + spending money. Rustic Pathways requires every participant to carry medical insurance with coverage in the destination country. Travel insurance is separate, is not included in Program Tuition, and is strongly recommended rather than required. The enrollment fee increases nearer departure, so the amount is confirmed on your enrollment agreement. Scholarships and financial aid

Community Impact Framework For Travel Programs

Rustic Pathways travel programs follow the Three Pillars of Impact through the Rustic Pathways Foundation:

Three Pillars of Impact
Pillar Focus
Locally Led Priorities Host communities define project needs
Sustainable Service Design Long-term outcomes over short-term voluntourism
Reciprocal Exchange Students contribute while learning responsible travel behaviors

Focus Areas: Economic development, education, environment, infrastructure, health. All service projects align with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Students seeking deeper engagement can explore volunteer abroad programs built around 3+ year community partnerships.

Earning Service Hours: How Verification Works

  • Documentation: Official verification provided for university and scholarship applications
  • Range: 10–50+ hours depending on program length and type
  • Alignment: President’s Volunteer Service Award criteria
  • Tracking: Measurable impact reflections recorded throughout program

Most service trips for teens qualify students for PVSA certification and verified hours recognized by universities and scholarship programs.

What Parents Should Know

  • Local Teams: In-country staff; not seasonal hires
  • Communication: Transparent updates via structured parent communication protocols
  • Preparation: Mandatory pre-trip guidance on travel documents
  • Perfect Fit Matching: Program options segmented by age, intent, and duration
  • 43 Years: Four decades of operational history with families worldwide

One of the things students will do at the end of their Rustic Pathways trip is Rustic Ties. Rustic Ties is Rustic Pathways’ end-of-program reflection tradition in which students and leaders recognize relationships, learning, and contributions from the experience.
