Program Profile
Program Profile
I recently had the incredible opportunity to participate in this trip, and it was truly a life-changing experience. The program was well-structured, ensuring that every aspect of the trip was meaningful. From the moment you arrive they try to make you feel comfortable. Also the people I met I will never forget. I felt safe the whole time and the events were really fun. I went alone but I quickly made a ton of friends.

Accommodations

Caye Caulker

Students will stay in a centrally located hotel on the island only 400ft from the beach. Students will stay in a dorm-style room with bunk beds or room in a double occupancy room.  There will be AC and Wifi.

T.R.E.E.S

For the majority of the program students will stay at a base house located at the base of the Maya Mountains. This will be a wooden bunk house, there is no AC however there will be fans and they are very ventilated to help keep the temperature down.  Shared showers and toilets are detached from the cabin.  Wifi will be available in the common space only.

Service Projects

Rustic Pathways works with local community leaders and organizations to identify and prioritize the needs of each community. Please note that while we try our best to ensure we provide our advertised projects, some changes may occur due to the communities and project partners we work with.

Students will be doing a variety of conservation and ecological projects including Ethnobotanical Walk, Wildlife Conservation Lecture & field work, Mammalogy Lecture & Mammal Tracking Workshop, Bird Banding Lecture & Workshop, and Ocean Academy Lecture

Food

Participants will be eating a good variety of food during the buffet-style meals served at the T.R.E.E.S Base. Breakfast usually includes eggs, bread, cereal, milk, juice, and fresh fruit.Lunches and dinners range from traditional Belizean meals such as chicken, pork and fish dishes, rice, black beans, potatoes, salads, and pasta; to more familiar dishes like barbecues and burgers.

Water from the tap is safe to use for brushing teeth etc, but, students will be provided as much bottled water as they can drink. Don’t forget to bring along your own reusable water bottle, so we can minimize our plastic usage.

We are so excited to have you join us in Belize! Below is a recommended packing list based on what past students and staff used most during their time in Belize. Keep in mind that this is a recommendation and you should factor in your personal preferences and habits when it comes to items like socks, underwear, etc. We recommend packing for cold weather!

Most importantly, each student will need to be able to carry their luggage. Throughout the program, you will be moving your bag through the airport, loading and unloading from the cars, up and down stairs, and short distances across uneven terrain.

Packing the right gear (and the right amounts) is the first step to an incredible travel experience. Follow these tips to pack like a pro:

Pro Travel Tips:

✅ Travel light. Pack only the essentials. We strongly encourage only a carry on size luggage.

✅ Make sure your luggage complies with TSA regulations, especially your carry-on.

✅ Leave your valuables behind. While traveling, it’s easier for things to get lost, stolen, or damaged. Keep any prized possessions safe at home.

✅ Pack clothes that are acceptable for hot weather. This includes appropriate footwear.

✅ Typically the temperature is between 75-85 degrees F.
