How has your international experience evolved to make you an even more valuable addition to the Rustic Pathways team?
It has brought me closer to other cultures, ideas, values, beliefs and religions, in a way unlike ever before. This creates opportunities for growth and development, and for a more collaborative global community and here at Rustic we work with so many individuals from different backgrounds, communities and cross cultures which have taught me being more respectful and conscious of my actions.
How did you get involved with Rustic Pathways?
2007 I was about to complete my PG Diploma in Travel and Tourism management and during that time Rustic wanted to expand its operations in India and someone gave my referral to Country Director as I had experience in luxury travel back in time and that’s what gave up edge in interview with him from other applicants.
How long have you been working with Rustic Pathways?
I have been working with Rustic from July 1st, 2007.
What is the most fulfilling aspect of your job?
Creating programs around student learning and when you see participants actually appreciating, learning, growing and bridging gaps between 2 or many other community, people or world.
What do you like most about Rustic Pathways?
People with whom we work with it have never felt like co-workers but a family and will do anything for my extended family.
What makes Rustic Pathways different from other international program providers?
Our mission, vision and values and people who work for Rustic (local staff).
Have you traveled with other Rustic Pathways employees? What was your experience
like?
Yup, whenever we meet its great to connect in person. We never meet each other so often but everyone wants to make the most of it and tries to learn their culture, families and operations as well.
What has been one of your favorite moments at Rustic Pathways?
When Rustic announced they want to relaunch India and will continue operation in Nepal.
What is your favorite project you have worked on and why?
Working on launching Nepal operation, pre and post launch. I have always dreamt of making India operation bigger by adding different programs as well as it was really important if we want India op’s to grow than we wanted to open new countries around India and we were able to convince upper management to open Nepal and Bhuta, Sri Lanka and Maldives would have been the further extensions for the operations.
How did you first go about getting a global perspective?
It was always an area of interest being a student of history, sociology and public administration have brought me all the way to the doorstep of global perspective but meet and seeing things with an international organization has been really interesting in learning how things can be different than what you see, ready and process.
How do you embody Rustic Pathways’ vision and bring it to life?
All people are connected with shared humanity and all decisions are made with a global perspective.
How do you stay focused on Rustic’s mission to positively impact lives and communities around the world?

Why do you view travel as an essential part of every education?
Travel make travelers and PL horizon wide and learning is constant and when you move or travel between place you see, taste, smell, touch and hear things which creates experience and experience last for a long time and every time you reflect or see things happening in a certain way you can relate why, when, what and where.
What makes you proud to work at Rustic Pathways?
Students and their learning outcome and listening to your stories what their parents has to share how our programs help students grow for the experiences what we deliver on the ground.
What makes Rustic Pathways’ programs different from other programs in [country]?
The Local staff what we have on ground that is a cherry on the cake. They are the rock start with whom students are learning the most and able to make connecting with their help in local community.
What does a typical day look like for a Rustic Pathways program participant in India and Nepal?
– Every day we start our days with team building/morning discussion/setting up the purpose.
– from 8:30-1:30 pm service or sight seeing
– 1:30-3:30pm lunch and rest
– Sightseeing continue or cultural activity if we are on service program
What makes India & Nepal the perfect place for international volunteering?
India: Diverse culture, Appealing food, Affectionate people, historic place and Artisan handicraft.
Nepal: Volunteering in Nepal is the perfect opportunity to discover the amazing landscape of the Himalayas and the country’s cultural heritage while doing something meaningful and do experience the culture from up close. After the devastating earthquake in 2015, international volunteers are much needed. Apply for a construction project to rebuild Nepalese communities.
What is the first thing program participants do when they arrive in India & Nepal?
India: Cultural shock and want to see Taj Mahal

What is the most important thing participants bring home with them?
Time what they spent in country with homestay, co-traveler and local staff and appreciate what they have back home.
What is some of your best advice for incoming participants?
Come with an open mind and don’t judge what’s wrong or right but things are different in different parts of the world and community.
What is the most unique aspect of Rustic Pathways’ programs in India and Nepal?
We take them to a few tourist places but take them to those places where tourists don’t think of going and we give them hands on experience which they couldn’t get with our and our local staff support.
What is the one thing participants interested in joining Rustic Pathways in India and Nepal should know before applying?
Attitude and working style of the people in that country.
Part of the “ethos” of Rustic Pathways is to start meaningful dialogues and create real interactions with the local communities. How do you ensure your programs abroad include these immersive aspects?
As CMT we make people responsible for delivering meaningful dialogues and take them on site visits beforehand people go on the program to deliver the experience so they can ask, meet and learn about the site, place, village, community.
