Why Travel to Santiago, Chile?
Some trips focus on landmarks. This one focuses on people.
This isn’t about checking off major cities or posing for photos in front of monuments. It’s about stepping into life in Latin America, meeting Chilean students, listening to their stories, and seeing how daily life works in central Santiago, the Andes, and along the Pacific Ocean.
Over seven days, you’ll explore historic neighborhoods, cook Chilean food, take public transportation, and work on small community-led projects. You’ll ride a cable car up San Cristóbal Hill, eat pastel de choclo at a family-run restaurant, and walk the colorful hills of Valparaíso. Along the way, you’ll practice Spanish, meet local artists, and visit important cultural sites from house museums to memory spaces.
You’ll come home with questions, stories, and a new sense of place.
What You’ll Take Home
This is not a “visit Santiago” teen tour. It’s a quiet, honest look at one part of life in Latin America.
You’ll see a different side of major cities. You’ll listen, observe, and offer what help you can. You’ll spend time with people who might change how you think about language, history, and your place in the world.
The setting may be unfamiliar. But the feelings of curiosity, humility and connection will make you feel right at home.

Safety & Logistics
We prioritize safety in every aspect of this program.
Violent crime is rare in the areas we visit, but we prepare for petty crime with group protocols and situational awareness. Our team monitors local media, keeps in contact with local authorities, and avoids remote areas or risky gatherings. Emergency cell phones and road safety kits are carried at all times.
Although Chile’s history includes political unrest and natural disasters, risk is low in Central Chile. We take precautions and review emergency plans, including for earthquakes, which are part of life here.
Beyond Central Chile
We’d be glad to help you plan international trips beyond this one. If you return either as an individual traveler or with Rustic Pathways, there’s much more to explore across South America including: Atacama Desert and San Pedro de Atacama (the driest desert on earth), Easter Island, home of the Moai statues. Southern Chile and national parks near Punta Arenas.
