✓ Pre-flight coordination – Personal Travel Advisor handles all booking details
✓ Gateway airport supervision – Staff greet and guide students through check-in
✓ In-flight chaperone – Trained adult flies with the group internationally
✓ 24/7 flight support – We handle delays, cancellations, and rebooking
✓ Customs assistance – Help navigating immigration both directions
✓ Group bonding – Students make friends before the program starts
How Chaperoned Flights Work
- Book early – We use publicly available flights for our group trips, so it’s important to reserve your spot early; seats can fill quickly and prices may increase.
- Connect through gateway – We arrange flights from your home airport to our hubs (EWR, LAX, MIA).
- Meet the group – Students gather at the gateway wearing Rustic Pathways shirts.
- Fly together – Chaperone accompanies group to destination and back.
- Seamless arrival – In-country staff meet the group at destination.
“It was great to hear that the Rustic team was so efficient in guiding the kids from airport terminal to the correct flights / groups / hotels and made sure everyone was safe. My son was on three consecutive programmes in Thailand with Rustic” – Alexander Jack, Bainbridge Island, WA

Important: Contact us before booking to confirm arrival/departure windows.
Unaccompanied Minor Policies by Airline
Airlines require special procedures for travelers under 15 flying alone on domestic segments. Our team coordinates with all major carriers to ensure seamless connections for your teen.
UM Process for Chaperoned Flights
- Domestic segment – Child flies as UM to gateway airport.
- Gateway meeting – Our coordinator meets them at the gate.
- International segment – Join chaperoned group (no longer UM).
- Additional fees – Airline UM fees apply (typically $150 each way).
We handle all UM coordination to ensure seamless connections. Parents receive real-time updates throughout the journey.
Age Requirements by Airline
- Under 15: Required UM service on most airlines
- 15-17: Optional UM service
- International segments: No UM required when flying with our chaperone
Late-Season Travel Booking Guidelines
Booking late in the season? Here’s what you need to know to secure the best options for your teen’s summer adventure.
Availability Challenges
- Chaperoned flight seats are limited late in the season
- Higher airfare prices typical for summer travel
- Fewer routing options available
We use public flights for chaperoned group flights, so prices and availability are not guaranteed late in the booking season. Book and confirm early to guarantee your spot on the chaperoned flight.
Solutions for Late Bookings
- Consider independent flight options with support
- Book immediately upon enrollment
- Be flexible with departure airports
- Allow extra connection time
When enrolling after May 1, contact us immediately to discuss flight options before finalizing enrollment.
