Cameron Briscoe

What countries have you traveled to?

I have traveled to over 50 countries on five different continents. I have spent extensive time in Europe and South/Central America. I was a tour director in Europe for two years and have a passion for Latin culture. My favorite countries are: (in no particular order) Brazil, Colombia, Greece, Guatemala and Mexico. One of my greatest experiences was hiking through the desert of Lençóis Maranhenses on the northern tip of Brazil.

How has your international experience evolved to make you an even more valuable addition to the Rustic Pathways team?

Having worked and lived overseas, I have forged a strong ability to connect with people from all backgrounds. I love meeting new people and having traveled so extensively; I feel like I have a wonderful grasp on cultures and destinations. Particularly to help ensure our clients choose the right destination for them.

How did you get involved with Rustic Pathways?

I was informed about them through an old work colleague and feel in love with the company’s philosophy. I am a Group Travel Coordinator, which combines my passions for sales, travel and education.

How long have you been working with Rustic Pathways?

I have been working for Rustic for just over 1 year.

What makes Rustic Pathways different from other international program providers?

We are the leaders in service learning, and I believe our projects are built with long term consequences considered. We also have local program leaders who give amazing insights into the countries and places they are visiting.

Have you traveled with other Rustic Pathways employees? What was your experience like?

I have been to Fiji and floated between three different groups. I had a wonderful experience at all three bases and could not be more impressed with our operations and the people involved at every level of Rustic.

What has been one of your favorite moments at Rustic Pathways?

Bringing on 3 new schools to experience Rustic in my first year.

What is your favorite project you have worked on and why?

We run a Coffee Van at Rustic Australia and it is a great way to reward the teaching community with free coffee and acts of service. We visit schools and give teachers a free coffee! It is often a highlight for the staff and it is a really fun way to meet new schools.

How did you first go about getting a global perspective?

Ever since I was a child, my parents instilled the importance of travel in my education and the importance of understanding the world around me. We went on many holidays and I have had the travel bug since I was about 10 years old. When I finished University, I set out to see as much of the world as I could. I spent most of my 20’s working and traveling as much as I could and hoped it could give me a good of the world around me.

How do you stay focused on Rustic’s mission to positively impact lives and communities around the world?

I have tried to take lessons from Rustic Pathway and apply it to my own world. We are lucky to live in a country like Australia and It is important to consider how we can positively impact those around us – both family, friends and the wider community.

Why do you view travel as an essential part of every education?

Most of our travelers come from privileged families, but are meeting people who have not always been afforded the same luxuries. It is important to get a balanced perspective when you are growing up. And to learn how others live is very important. Many other people also never get the chance to travel. Just to have this opportunity is a privilege and we must never take it for granted.

What makes you proud to work at Rustic Pathways?

I am proud of the people and passion that those who work for Rustic bring to the company. Every single person who works for Rustic has something special that they offer to their coworkers and clients. Our people genuinely care about what we do and how we do it, which makes it such a special place to work!
