Fork Union Academy: Costa Rica 2024
Welcome Fork Union Academy Students!

Fork Union Academy: Costa Rica 2024

Learn all about turtle conservation and work to protect native sea turtles on the Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica. Spend the days both enjoying the beach and working to keep it clean. Help protect the turtles during evening patrols looking for nests to relocate to safety. Experienced conservationists will lead you through service and teach you about the many ongoing efforts to save sea turtles. In addition to these daily shifts in the hatchery, carry out beach cleanups with park rangers and marvel at the beautiful beaches.

3. Enjoy this experience of a lifetime!

Packing the right gear (and the right amounts) is an important step in every travel experience. Follow these tips to pack like a pro:

  1. Travel light. Pack only the essentials. You’ll need less than you think!
  2. Bring the right clothes. Pack clothes that are culturally appropriate for your destination and acceptable for service work. This means long shorts (think Bermuda and basketball shorts) or pants, shirts that cover shoulders, and appropriate footwear.
  3. Weather can be variable in any season. We recommend packing clothing that can be easily layered to adjust to changing temperatures.
  4. While traveling, it’s easier for things to get lost, damaged, or stolen. Keep any prized possessions and valuables safe at home.
  5. Check with TSA. Make sure your luggage (especially carry-on) complies with TSA regulations.
