• Harry Alvarez

    Dominican Republic Country Director

    Born in New York and raised in the Dominican Republic, Harry graduated from SUNY New Paltz with degrees in psychology and Spanish. He has managed programs in Costa Rica and Panama, and has now been directing our operations in the Dominican Republic for four years. In addition to his passion for indigenous cultures and Latin dance, Harry enjoys cooking at his home in New Orleans.

  • Kate Lubina

    Dominican Republic Country Manager

    A native of Southern California, Kate is at home near the ocean with her feet in the water. She graduated from the University of Southern California with a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences and a master’s in global medicine. Kate brings this background to our Life in the Bateyes and Intro to Public Health programs where she works to create quality service projects and engaging learning opportunities for our students.


  • Carlos Rodriguez

    Dominican Republic Program Manager

    Carlos joined Rustic Pathways in 2013. A native of Haiti who has spent most of his life in San Pedro, Carlos brings his invaluable local knowledge and infectious positivity to our programs in the bateyes. He is fluent in Spanish, Haitian Creole, French, and has a love for language, culture, and community service. Prior to joining Rustic, Carlos worked as a sugar cane cutter and a community organizer.

  • Alex Biddle

    Dominican Republic Program Manager

    Alex is a proud native of Ohio, recently graduating from Ohio State University with degrees in international relations and Hispanic linguistics, with a minor in leadership studies. Through many trips to Latin America and after a year as an exchange student in Spain, Alex speaks Spanish fluently. She brings her passion for experiential learning, endless optimism, and creativity to the Rustic Pathways team. On the side, Alex owns a small jewelry business, crafting bracelets with vintage sewing buttons.

  • Samuel Batista

    Program Manager

    Juan Samuel is a native of the beach town of Boca Chica just outside of Santo Domingo. He comes to Rustic Pathways with over a decade of experience in the tourism and hospitality industry in the Dominican Republic. Samuel holds a degree in Theology from the Dominican Institute for Relgious Studies and is the founder of the Jonas Foundation which is dedicated to community development in his local community and the surrounding areas. In addition to his native Spanish, Samuel also speaks English, French, and Haitian Creole.
