Intro to Community Service in Costa Rica is one of our most popular programs! It provides a great intro to Tico culture and community service in rural Costa Rica while exposing you to the country’s famed adventure activities.
At Rustic, we empower students through innovative and responsible travel experiences to positively impact lives and communities around the world. To impact the lives of our students and people in the communities they visit, community service is a critical component of our programs. From improving schools, to working in a National Park, to teaching English, you’ll participate in different service projects created in collaboration with the community and designed to have a lasting impact. You can apply the 22 community service hours toward a school requirement or use the experience to try different types of service.
Most of Rustic’s more than 100 summer and spring break programs in 17 countries include both service and adventure, making us a leader in the high school travel industry. Costa Rica, especially, is renowned for adventure activities. During this program, you’ll zip line through the rainforest canopy to views of the now dormant Arenal Volcano. You’ll also experience the Class II and III rapids of the Sarapiqui River, a trip to a local hot springs, and plenty of time to relax at the base house pool.
Rustic has operated programs in Costa Rica since 2003 and it remains one of our most popular destination countries. Intro to Community Service is particularly unique because it attracts students from all over the world. You’ll get to know students not only from different parts of the United States but also Europe and Asia. Swap stories during downtime at Rustic’s Volcano and Rainforest base house to get to better understand each other’s backgrounds and cultures. Who knows, maybe you’ll make a new best friend!
