Activities

I learned so much on my trip to New Orleans and it has become one of my favorite cities. NOLA is a vibrant and eclectic city, full of life and inspiring people. Helping the city recover was extremely rewarding and this trip helped me discover the value of service.

Packing the right gear (and the right amounts) is an important step in every travel experience. Follow these tips to pack like a pro:

  1. Travel light. Pack only the essentials. You’ll need less than you think!
  2. Bring the right clothes. Pack clothes that are culturally appropriate for your destination and acceptable for service work. This means long shorts (think Bermuda and basketball shorts) or pants, shirts that cover shoulders, and appropriate footwear.
  3. Weather can be variable in any season. We recommend packing clothing that can be easily layered to adjust to changing temperatures.
  4. While traveling, it’s easier for things to get lost, damaged, or stolen. Keep any prized possessions and valuables safe at home.
  5. Check with TSA. Make sure your luggage (especially carry-on) complies with TSA regulations.

Service Site Dress Code:

  • Volunteers must wear shirts with sleeves (no tank tops, spaghetti straps, etc.).
  • All pants should be longer than mid-thigh
  • Only closed-toe shoes are allowed on site; this doesn’t include all-fabric shoes, such as Toms, Keds, etc.
  • Shirts, pants, and shoes must be worn at all times on the construction site.
  • Wear comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty.
