Rustic Spirit Spotlights: Kathryn, Nate and Daisy

Teenagers around the world are working to create positive change in their communities.

These students inspire you and motivate you with their actions. They have a desire to help others, protect the planet, and make the world a better place.

In our Rustic Spirit spotlights we recognize and celebrate these individuals. The following changemakers are doing incredible work!

Kathryn De Leon
Age 16
Concord Christian Academy
New Hampshire, United States

Kathryn is always offering a listening ear to anyone who needs someone to talk to, from her close friends to people who cry out for help on the internet. She is skilled at helping others using her emotional intelligence to encourage peers who are struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts to seek help. When needed, Kathryn is quick to ask for professional support to give hurting individuals proper care and advice.

Kathryn spends her free time hanging out with her friends and playing video games. She’s also a second degree black belt! Kathryn has considered different majors such as journalism but is still deciding what she will pursue in college.

Impact advice: Be willing to be there for people and express that. Never judge people for what they say to you, and if possible, have a trained professional by your side if something ever ends up becoming really serious.

Nate Harkins
Age 15
Wilburton High School
Oklahoma, United States

Nate exhibits leadership and exemplifies what it means to be a member of a team through his various pursuits. He is currently a Future Farms of America officer and every month speaks to elementary school students about the importance of agriculture. Also a member of his school’s student council for the last two years, he has helped organize the annual Veterans Assembly and assisted with serving meals to the veterans.

Loving all things sports, Nate plays baseball, basketball and runs cross country. He and his family are trying to go to every single Major League Baseball ballpark! Nate plans to major in sports broadcasting. He aspires to play college baseball and pursue a job as a commentator for baseball games.

Impact advice: Remember that the world is bigger than yourself and if you are kind,  good things will come.

Daisy
Age 17
Massachusetts, United States

Daisy is an active participant in the Bridge Builder Club which is responsible for welcoming new and transfer students. She enjoys helping the new students get around school and works hard to cultivate a kind and inclusive community.

In her free time Daisy enjoys writing. She is still deciding what to pursue after graduation.
