Rustic Spirit Spotlights: Jordan, Mya and Kaci

This week we’re highlighting teens across South Carolina who show love for their communities through positive impact work! We’re inspired by the student’s actions, and they inspire others by demonstrating that each individual can make a difference.

Jordan Watford
Age 15
Lancaster High School
Lancaster, South Carolina

Jordan is an honor roll student athlete who leads by example. He loves working with kids in the community and at his church because they look up to him. Jordan spreads his knowledge of how to remain humble in all situations and to stay out of trouble.

At fifteen, Jordan is currently focusing on his high school courses and is an honor roll student with a high GPA. Jordan’s passion is basketball and he can be found in any gym daily.

Jordan advises to stay humble, hungry and positive. Always trust the process and don’t let anyone get in the way of your dreams. If you dream it, you can achieve it.

Mya Horn
Age 18
Cardinal Newman School
Columbia, South Carolina

Mya is involved in numerous volunteer opportunities to give back to her community as much as possible. Over the summer, she cleaned a local river with Congaree Riverkeeper, an organization that protects and improves water quality and wildlife habitats. At school, Mya led a food drive that provided 120 local families with Thanksgiving meals. She’s also the leader of the M18s, a women’s prayer group at her school. Over the holidays the group hosted a clothing and toy donations drive for a local women’s shelter.

In college, Mya plans to major in biology to pursue either a career in horticulture or medicine. In her free time she enjoys painting, especially landscapes and oceanic scenes. Mya also loves to be outside, kayaking, and near any body of water whether it be the ocean or a local lake.

Mya reminds us that a large part in making a positive impact is caring for the well being of others. Whenever she sees litter, she picks it up simply because it’ll benefit those around her and at most takes an extra minute out of the day. It doesn’t take a lot, just what’s around you!

Kaci Crosby
Age 17
Colleton County High School
Walterboro, South Carolina

Kaci gives her time and energy to make her school and community a better place. She serves as Student Body President and devotes her free time to the local homeless shelter. A few of the volunteer tasks she does at the shelter are making food, stocking the food pantry and outreach. In her free time, Kaci enjoys hanging out with her friends.

Kaci says you always have the option to make someone’s day ten times better by simply being kind to them and listening to them.
