The role of Photographer Guide allows one to take a step beyond observing your subject, but experience and connect in the moment. Creating an image, freezing the moment in time, and allowing this moment to be shared is what photography is all about.

“This past fall I was lucky to be selected as a Photo Guide to travel and work alongside sixteen amazing students from all over the world. We initiated our Gap semester in the Dominican Republic, cruised over to Costa Rica, and concluded our adventure in Peru.
This blog highlights an experience I documented and remember vividly in Costa Rica. Our group just finished an extensive community service project in Turrialba and after a day of white water kayaking we took a trip to Uvita beach.
Palm trees filed in line along the Pacific coast to watch the sunset of the shores of Coast Rica. Our group was excited for the upcoming sporting experience that was scheduled the following morning: surfing!
No matter what was going on with each one of us that week, the moment I saw my students hit the beach, I sensed the elation immediately. The surfing lessons were fun, successful, and highly anticipated due to the fact that my co-leader and friend was from Costa Rica AND a surfing god.

Scott is the Director of Admissions at Rustic Pathways. He has spent the last 15 years in the student travel and experiential education world. Before helping families find the perfect Rustic Pathways program, he led gap year programs that took students around the world and spent three years teaching English in Japan.
